Evaluation 2
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
Individual products
My products were effective because of my planning and research. Before I created them I did extensive research into the components of the products. Here is a sample of my research:
Individual products
My products were effective because of my planning and research. Before I created them I did extensive research into the components of the products. Here is a sample of my research:
And when I was creating products I was sure to include these features
This research meant that I had a clear understanding of the products I was creating
The combination of products
I believe that the combination of my main products and ancillary tasks was extremely effective as there was synergy across the products.
Colours
All products had bright colours, as the Album name was 'Different Colours' , and this links to Andrew Goodwin's theory that lyrics and visuals in music videos should link. The use of these colours meant that the products stood out and were instantly recognisable, and had a solid aesthetic that linked them all together.

Colours
All products had bright colours, as the Album name was 'Different Colours' , and this links to Andrew Goodwin's theory that lyrics and visuals in music videos should link. The use of these colours meant that the products stood out and were instantly recognisable, and had a solid aesthetic that linked them all together.
Here is: a screenshot of our music video, with all of the actors wearing bright colours; my final magazine advert, where the background has brightly coloured lights; and my digipak where every element has bright colours, and the title of the album is written with red, yellow and orange alternating letters, which is the costume colours of the actors in our music video.
Fonts
All products also had extremely similar fonts, all sans serif to keep the informal tone of the products. We used Helvetica neue for the titles in the music video and Arial Rounded MT Bold for the ancillary tasks, as there were no appropriate fonts that existed in both powerpoint and imovie. This use of similar fonts furthered the synergy and branding of the products.
Connections
I used the same tracks for both the digipak and the singles on the magazine advert
I also had the same website on both of the ancillary tasks.
And the same indie production company.
All of these connections meant that there was a consistent brand for the artist.
Star Image
One of the major things that I made sure was consistent throughout each product was the use of the artist's image. This is the Star Theory presented by Andrew Goodwin that states that an artist should be easily recognisable, and this is why he is presented consistently throughout each product with a signature look (a bright red hat and a trenchcoat). In the digipak, he is on every product, the paper insert, the CD and the front of the CD case.
Audience Feedback
The combination of products was also successful as I made sure to gain audience feedback about whether the products were instantly recognisable as one brand, and if this brand was appealing and the answer from a focus group of my target audience was a positive one.
Evaluation Questions
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Survey Monkey
This is a survey we conducted on Survey Monkey. Unfortunately the layout was confusing, as we distributed it on Snapchat, and therefore we only got three full responses, which is not enough data to be quantifiable. Fortunately Q3 was not multiple choice and so we received some actionable feedback from that.
Titles
The final thing we need to add to our video is the title of the song and the artist name. We had decided to use the font Helvetica neue as it looked very similar to the font we used in our digipaks and adverts.
Final Audience Feedback
Before we uploaded our finished video we got audience feedback one last time to make sure there wasn't anything we'd missed.
Editing 3
Hopefully this is the final editing post, barring any important feedback from our upcoming audience feedback session.
- Edited in the re-filmed shots of Alisha
- Added a close up of the map
- Match on action of pointing and moving down the path
- Eyeline watch of the tree and the girls moving into the clearing
- Cut the digging shots
- Cropped map close-up
- Added more digging in response to audience feedback
- Freeze frame of the spade as the actual footage was too shaky to use
- The freeze frame looked oddly still so we used a snippet of footage and slowed it down to 75% so it looked less shaky
- Moved the shot of the ducks as everyone said it was too sudden
- Added the cartoon ending effect
Re-Filming Alisha
We are planning to re-film and replace the footage of Alisha on the phone as the original was poor quality, and looked odd with the rest of the shots.
Audience Feedback Final Shot
We were unsure of which final shot worked better, so we asked for audience feedback, and the consensus was Version 1.
Serif vs Sans Serif
Serif is when a font has a small line attached to the end of a stroke, and sans serif is when letters do not have this addition. Typically, serif fonts are used for serious documents, and it tends to make products feel sophisticated and official. For our artist we wanted a more upbeat and fun atmosphere and image, so for all typography in the music video and ancillary tasks I will be using a sans serif font.
Final Magazine Advert
This is my final magazine advert, complete with annotations showing where I used my research, and some of my stylistic choices.
Magazine Advert Audience Feedback
The audience feedback was in favour of advert two on the grounds that it looked more professional, although many people liked the picture from advert one. But advert two is my final product!
Magazine Advert Drafts
I made two different magazine adverts, and plan on getting audience feedback as to which one should be my final product.
Final Digipak
This is my final digipak, complete with annotations showing where I used features from my research and some of my stylistic choices.
Digipak Drafts
I have three versions of my Digipak, and I plan on asking audience feedback on which one should be the final product.
